Software Licensing

Q)Does shareware and freeware need a license for distribution?

A) Sometimes yes. Although it is free to download via the internet, the content owners often place conditions on distributing the programs to other end users. This often takes the form of a license agreement that is sometimes available via the internet web site.

Q) How do I find out whether or not a license is required for distribution?

A) The information is often available on the web site of the content owner. Look for the EULA (End User License Agreement). Within the EULA there is often a section that outlines the requirements for distribution. Alternatively, most programs contain a EULA within them so by launching the program this can be located and the requirements checked. If both of the above do not provide the answer then e-mail or telephone the content owner.

Most content owners provide confirmation of distribution licensing.

CRYSTAL CLEAR REQUIRES A COPY OF THE CONFIRMATION FROM THE CONTENT OWNERS BEFORE BEGINNING PRODUCTION OF YOUR ORDER.

Exceptions: Adobe Acrobat Reader only allows download of Acrobat logos, etc. when the user has agreed to the conditions. Also, Macromedia does not supply confirmation for their licensing applications. For these products, simply print the Internet page where you have filled in the licensing information and submit with your order.
